Junior High Awards

JUNIOR HIGH AWARDS

Students in Grades 7, 8 and 9 are eligible to receive a number of awards.

Student awards will be presented to recipients during our Grade 9 Farewell Celebration or during the Grade 7 and 8 Junior High Awards Ceremony in June. Athletic Awards will all be presented after the Grade 7 and 8 Junior High Awards Ceremony.

Award descriptions and eligibility requirements are as follows:

ACADEMIC AWARDS 

Merit 7, 8 & 9: To receive a Merit Certificate, students must achieve a combined average of 75 percent or higher in the four academic core subjects (language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics). 

Honours 7, 8 & 9: To receive an Academic Honour Certificate, students must achieve a combined average of 80 percent in the four core courses (language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics). To be eligible for Honours, students must also have a passing grade in all other courses. 

Honors with Distinction 7, 8, 9: To receive an Honours with Distinction Certificate, students must achieve a combined average of 90 percent in the four core courses (language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics). To be eligible for Honours with Distinction, students must also have a passing grade in all other courses. 

Wolves Citizenship 7, 8,  9: This award goes to a student who exemplifies the motto, mission, and philosophy of Lakeland Ridge School. This individual is committed to their personal success as well as the success of their classmates, inside and outside of the classroom. The recipient demonstrates the qualities of a lifelong learner, collaborates well with others, is a leader and role model among their peers, and is a positive member of our school community.  

Core Subject Awards: Core subject awards recognize students who demonstrate high academic achievement as well as leadership and interest in the subject area. The individuals are engaged in class, enthusiastic about the material, and strive to learn more.

Highest Overall Grade 7, 8, 9 Academic Achievement Award: This award goes to the student who has earned the highest average in their grade for the four core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social).

ELECTIVE AWARDS

To receive Elective Awards, students must demonstrate excellent planning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. In addition, recipients support effective relationships, collaborate to achieve common goals and demonstrate exemplary knowledge and skills in the specific subject matter. Finally, students must effectively communicate their growth while exploring their interests and passions.

ATHLETIC AWARDS

Outstanding Athlete Award: Awarded to a student who exemplifies the qualities of a well-rounded student-athlete at Lakeland Ridge School. These attributes include being a strong role model and leader to others and a hardworking, diligent student both inside and outside of the classroom. 

ATHLETIC TEAM AWARDS

Wolf Heart: Awarded to a student-athlete who truly portrays what it means to be part of the Lakeland Ridge Wolf pack. The recipient leads by example and is helpful to the coaching staff as well as supports other team players throughout the season. A Wolf Heart recipient understands that the team comes before the individual and strives to bring everyone together to strengthen the pack. 

Most Improved Player (MIP): Awarded to the student-athlete who shows improvement throughout the season of play, which can be portrayed in a variety of ways. This can include an increase in skill level throughout the season, or a sincere effort to learn and grow to better support the team.

Most Valuable Player (MVP): Awarded to the student-athlete who is a valuable team player. The recipient is not necessarily the highest-skilled player, however, their contributions and dedication throughout the season are instrumental to the success of the team.
