Homework Requests for Family Vacations
The Education Act does not require teachers to provide instructional materials in advance for students absent due to family travel. Additionally, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) does not support the requirement for teachers to create individualized assignments outside of their planned instruction.
Learning in schools is interactive and collaborative, involving discussions, group activities, and hands-on experiences that cannot always be replicated through worksheets or independent assignments. Families are encouraged to support learning through reading, writing, and real-world applications of math while away.
